AGERpoint™ has created a solution for pecan growers that will allow them to easily apply for the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation’s pecan tree insurance program that has been approved and implemented by the USDA Risk Management Agency. Pecan tree insurance program provides coverage for damage to pecan trees resulting from naturally occurring events. This program was submitted and approved under section 508(h) of the Federal Crop Insurance Act in June 2016 and it expands on existing insurability of pecan crops.

AGERpoint’s solution enables growers to report detailed and accurate grove data broken down by trunk diameter (stage I through V) for each farm and block. Through GroveTracker™ scans growers are able to analyze their holdings through an intuitive online Crop Information Management System called AGERmetrix™. GroveTracker™ creates an inventory for your field, provides specific location for each plant, and provides phenotypical data such as canopy diameter, trunk diameter, tree height, leaf density and number of trees. Pecan tree insurance program will be available starting with 2018 crop year in select counties in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Texas. Interested growers need to work with their crop insurance agents before the May 15, 2017 sales closing date if they wish to participate in this program for the upcoming crop year.
