Introducing: Know Your Carbon™

We are pleased to announce the launch of Agerpoint’s carbon Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) tool: Know Your Carbon™ (www.kyc.ag)

This capability aims to provide credibility and transparency to the Natural Climate Solutions (NCS) voluntary carbon marketplace by leveraging Agerpoint’s unique ability to create highly accurate 3D plant models and efficiently extract physical measurements and health information using automation and AI.

How does Know Your Carbon™ work?

Depending on the vegetation, Agerpoint, our partners or customers acquire sensor data using drones, aircraft, mobile devices, ground vehicles or spaceborne satellites. We validate, process and then fuse this data together to create detailed information for each tree or plant area within a boundary or interest.

From there, we can reliably calculate critical indicators of carbon captured in the soil (for example, measuring woody biomass) and evaluate species diversity or plant health using spectral data. We then organize all of this information in our Agerpoint Cloud software platform for intuitive interpretation, reporting and reference.

How does Know Your Carbon™ differ from existing MRV tools?

Over the past several years, Agerpoint has focused product development efforts on generating the most accurate physical plant measurements possible using LiDAR (a laser based technology) and photogrammetric point clouds as a base layer. Starting with permanent crops such as citrus, almonds and grapes, we have expanded into digitizing forests, specialty crops and row crops. Considering this technology is able to measure plant attributes within the canopy, it provides significantly higher levels of precision as compared to satellite imagery alone - precision necessary for credible estimates of carbon captured.

Alongside becoming adept at data acquisition to generate detailed datasets, Agerpoint also built machine learning object extraction models that automatically identify individual plants and extract physical plant dimensions and characteristics.

With the combination of more affordable data acquisition due to declining sensor costs, advancements in data processing, computation and storage, and Agerpoint's proven ability to efficiency extract highly accurate plant metrics, Know Your Carbon™ is positioned to support what we believe to be a critical gap of enabling real and verified carbon credits through better tech-enabled measurement and monitoring tools and techniques.

Know Your Carbon™ differs from current manually intensive ground measurements used in carbon project origination and monitoring, and from other digital tools that exclusively leverage satellite imagery which often a) lack sufficient resolution for accurate physical plant measures and b) rely on rigorous ground truth that can be labor intensive and logistically challenging to obtain.

Our team at Agerpoint is excited to apply this new offering toward supporting our mission "to improve quality of life for the planet’s inhabitants and mitigate climate change by enabling a transformational shift in how we measure and understand plants, crops and forests."

We look forward to sharing many more exciting updates with you in the near future.
